Purchasing Assistant

This position is responsible for supporting all procurement related activity pertaining to our direct and indirect spend categories.  Purchasing Assistant will be expected to analyze data and help develop strategies to reduce our overall procurement cost and work to improve supplier quality and service levels.  Purchasing Assistant will also be responsible for managing new product development projects and work closely with key stakeholders to workflow stages to completion.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES include but are not limited to:

Process Control and Data Analytics
  1. Manage updated pricing files and ERP system integrity for new and existing materials
  2. Work with A/P in managing invoice reconciliation and the supplier resolution process
  3. Develop continuous improvement initiatives within procure-to-pay cycle
  4. Work with PPV data to develop and analyze areas of opportunity for cost improvement
  5. Maintain item detail and contract balance files
Sourcing Support
  1. Support strategic sourcing process and successful delivery of all source plans
  2. Work w/ stakeholders to ensure alignment on goals and strategies
  3. Use and further develop purchasing tools to improve transparency within spend categories
  4. Help develop sourcing solutions that reduce total cost of ownership
  5. Support supplier development initiatives and business continuity plans
  6. Help manage data and process for all bidding events
New Product Development / Value Creation
  1. Support all work in meeting or exceeding annual cost savings targets
  2. Contribute to and help manage New Product Development (NPD) work stream
  3. Represent Procurement on broader Supply Chain projects
  4. Work with R&D, Quality, Buyers & Sales to identify and approve new vendors
  5. Manage new supplier approval and implementation
  6. Evaluate and communicate to the broader team all known supply chain constraints
  7. Help to identify new areas of opportunity and support growth platforms
 Supply Chain
  1. Align with Manufacturing on vendor service issues affecting scheduling or production
  2. Monitor supplier performance against objectives
  3. Support and develop raw material inventory strategies with planning and other key stakeholders
  4. Support specification and quality compliance requirements with suppliers
  5. Meet with Buyers on a regular basis and assist with resolving supplier issues
  6. Manage and update raw material item master info to support material planning needs  
 In addition to the above Principle Accountabilities, completing other duties as assigned is an expectation of this positionKNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES-
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or 3-5 years experience in progressive purchasing role, knowledge in supply chain, and MRP planning
  • Detail oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills, able to manage multiple assignments.
  • Able to clearly communicate with vendors and internal stakeholders through email and in person
  • Strong sense of urgency, follow-up, decision making, and judgment skills
  • Motivated self starter
  • Some travel required (sister companies, vendor plant tours, food/packaging seminars)
Computer Experience:
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
  • ERP ordering system – JD Edwards EnterpriseOne preferred
